I began making my own deodorant because of multiple theories that link life-threatening illnesses to aluminum. As a mind-body practitioner and Pescetarian and having recently completed my transformation to naturally curly hair, I wanted to take the next step in healthy living by removing this potentially toxic chemical from my daily routine. Although aluminum is a mineral that comes straight from the earth, the aluminum-based chemical compound that is found in antiperspirants is what stops you from sweating, and consequently can introduce sweat-inhibiting toxins that find their way into the bloodstream. Even if the aluminum in antiperspirant were not linked to disease, the idea of stopping my body’s natural process of eliminating toxins did not seem very healthy.
With this information in mind, I began using natural deodorant that a friend made. I absolutely loved it! In fact, I was inspired to create my own. After iterating through several recipes and packaging options for over a year, Duey’s Naturals deodorant was born.
